Becoming Wholly Human: Secular Buddhist Retreat
This retreat is for those who seek a practice of meditation that is secular in orientation but framed by Buddhist ethical and philosophical values. Combining reflections on classical Pali discourses with the practice of mindful awareness and concentration, we will seek to uncover what lies at the heart of the Buddha’s teaching and ask how such ideas might be interpreted and put into practice in today’s increasingly secular and interdependent world. Central to this project is the reconsideration of the “four noble truths” as “four great tasks”: embracing life, letting go of reactivity, beholding cessation, and cultivating a path. The time will be divided between talks, formal meditation and discussion.
